Bali – The Island of the Gods

When you ask people who have never been to Bali what they imagine it to be like, most will say “full of drunken Aussies and lots of traffic”. Well in some paces that is true, I believe Bali has something for everyone. From the Cosmopolitan bars of Seminyak to the surf beaches of Uluwatu to the “hippy”hills of Ubud, Bali is one of my favourite holiday destinations. I have already booked my 43rd holiday there for June 2022 (fingers and toes are crossed).

Denpasar Airport is a direct flight from most major Australian cities. Garuda and Qantas offer full service flights while Virgin and Jetstar are the budget options.

Being just 8 degrees south of the equator, Bali has a fairly even climate all year round. Average year-round temperature stands at around 30 °C with a humidity level of about 85%.

Daytime temperatures at low elevations vary between 20 to 33 °C, but the temperatures decrease significantly with increasing elevation.

The west monsoon is in place from approximately October to April, and this can bring significant rain, particularly from December to March. During the rainy season, there are comparatively fewer tourists seen in Bali. During the Easter and Christmas holidays, the weather is very unpredictable. Outside of the monsoon period, humidity is relatively low and any rain is unlikely in lowland areas.

Kuta, Tuban, Legian, Seminyak and Canggu are your most popular beach hotspots. Plenty of restaurants, bars and day clubs to suit any budget and accommodation to match from family friendly bungalows to high end luxury villas. These are all on the east coast and not far from the airport. My personal favourite beach spot though is Sanur, slightly less busy on the west coast of the Island. The is a beautiful boardwalk all the way along the coast with beachfront resturants and massage spots dotted along the way.

A must stay spot though is up in the hills in Ubud, here you will find art markets, vegan hotspots and waterfalls along with temples and some of the most amazing rice fields you will ever see. Itis a great place to base yourself for the sightseeing part of the holiday as traffic can be a nightmare across the Island, Ubud puts you in the middle of the “must see sights!
