Why not visit Puglia in Italy?

We have had our head in a last minute trip to Puglia in Italy this week for a client who decided to head to Europe with 12 days notice!

So why Puglia? Puglia is a stunning region located in the southern part of Italy. Known for its picturesque landscapes, beautiful beaches, and rich cultural heritage, Puglia is a must-visit destination for travellers who want to experience the authentic Italian way of life. Here is a travel guide to help you plan your trip to Puglia:

  1. When to go: The best time to visit Puglia is from April to June and September to October, when the weather is mild, and the crowds are fewer.
  2. Getting there: The main airport in Puglia is Bari Karol Wojtyła Airport, which serves both domestic and international flights. From the airport, you can take a bus, train, or taxi to your destination.
  3. Where to stay: Puglia has plenty of accommodation options, from luxury hotels to budget-friendly hostels. Some of the popular towns to stay in are Alberobello, Ostuni, Lecce, and Polignano a Mare.
  4. What to see and do:
  • Visit the trulli houses in Alberobello, which are unique cone-shaped buildings made of limestone.
  • Explore the historic town of Lecce, known for its stunning Baroque architecture.
  • Take a boat tour of the Grotte di Castellana, a series of underground caves with incredible rock formations.
  • Visit the beautiful beaches of Polignano a Mare and Monopoli.
  • Learn about the region’s rich history at the Castel del Monte, a 13th-century castle built by Emperor Frederick II.
  1. What to eat: Puglia is known for its delicious cuisine, including fresh seafood, pasta dishes, and local wines. Don’t miss out on trying the orecchiette pasta with tomato sauce and the burrata cheese.
  2. Getting around: The best way to explore Puglia is by car, as it gives you the flexibility to visit different towns and beaches at your own pace. Alternatively, you can also take a train or bus to get around.
  3. Local customs: Italians are known for their warm hospitality, so don’t be surprised if locals strike up a conversation with you. It’s also customary to greet people with a handshake or a kiss on the cheek.

Puglia is a beautiful destination that offers something for every type of traveller. Whether you’re interested in history, culture, or simply relaxing on the beach, Puglia is the perfect place to experience the authentic Italian lifestyle.
