Little Travel House

Why you should consider a European River Cruise

Andrew from little travel house sailed Budapest to Amsterdam in July, why did he love it?

The beauty or River cruising is the fact there is a small amount of passengers onboard, for example July 11 2023 , The Avalon View had 118 passengers onboard, and with 47 crew that is a wonderfully intimate and well served cruise

Avalon’s biggest selling point is the fact that their cabins have beds that face the view, and the huge windows retract back to essentially turn the whole cabin into a balcony. Avalon also offer complimentary drinks at meals, and also during a daily happy hour before dinner service. Their food service is also tailored to the region that the ship is sailing through, giving you a fantastic genuine local experience.

Sailing out of Budapest at sunset is a highlight, with all the buildings wonderfully lit. Its also a good reason you should consider the Budapest to Amsterdam direction rather than the Amsterdam-Budapest sail which seems to be more popular for no particular reason.

The Journey sails on the Danube, the Main-Danube Canal, the Main and the Rhine Rivers, and passes through 68 locks over the course of its journey. Most of the sailing is done at night, leaving passengers to enjoy 5 Countries and 15-16 days of sightseeing through Hungary, Slovakia, Germany, Austria and the Netherlands, with options excursions to the Czech Republic to see the stunning Czesky Krumlov. There are also some relaxing afternoon cruising allowing passengers to take in the stunning scenery from their cabin, or one of the large lounges, Skydeck or even the Spa on the Skydeck.

Other cities, towns and regions you can experience are Bratislava on Slovakia, Vienna in Austria, Melk in the Wachau Valley, Passau, Regensburg, Roth and Nuremberg, Bamberg, Volkach, Wurzburg, Miltenburg , Rudesheim and Cologne in Germany, before finishing in Amsterdam.
